Formed in 1792, Shelby County was named for Isaac Shelby and is located 25 miles from Louisville down I-64. The County elevation ranges from approximately 550 to 1188 feet above sea level. The population in the County was 33,337 in 2000 with an average of 86.8 people per square mile located in a land area of 384.19 square miles.
