Appealing Your Property Taxes
If you believe your property has been assessed higher than the market value, you may want to contact your local tax assessor's office to find out the procedure to appeal your property tax assessment. Maybe you can appeal your assessment informally; most likely, however, you will have to go through a formal tax-appeal process, which begins with an appeal filed with the appropriate assessment appeals board. It is a good idea to ask your Louisville realtor for a CMA before you invest your time. Your Louisville home just may be worth more than you think.
Homestead Exemption
The Homestead Exemption for the year 2015-2016 is $36,900. Property owners who are a minimum of 65 years old qualify for the Homestead Exemption on their primary property according to Kentucky's Constitution. The exemption amount is simply subtracted from your property's assessed value, reducing your annual property tax bill.
